Carlos Bustamante, Ph.D.

Geneticist, CEO GalateaBio
Bustamante is a population geneticist and Professor of Biomedical Data Science and Genetics at Stanford University. He is also the Founding Director of the Stanford Center for Computational, Evolutionary, and Human Genomics (CEHG). Professor Bustamante also sits on a number of editorial and advisory boards and recently served on the National Advisory Council for Human Genome Research. He has received several prestigious awards, including being named a MacArthur Fellow – commonly referred to as the “Genius Grant”- in 2010.
Walter O'Leary

Walter O’Leary

Walter’s experience in early-stage investing in Quantum + A.I., cybersecurity, machine learning, blockchain technology, fintech, coupled with his experience working in capital markets in Wall Street and The City (London) has been of particular benefit to UM students aspiring to have an advantage in the market relative to their peers after they graduate. Whether students are interested in the public markets or the private markets, Walter believes that there is no substitute for real-world experience. He is constantly striving to help bridge the real world with academia and help place students in internships that lead to full-time job offers. In 2023, Walter mentored students in the Bloomberg Global Trading Challenge where two UM student teams ranked in the top 10% out of 2,007 teams. Walter has also supervised a dozen student volunteers at the annual Florida Venture Capital Conference which has featured over 800 startups that raised a combined +$16 billion.
Jorge Ros

Jorge Ros

Global Business Strategist & Cloud/AI Transformation Expert Vice President, IBM Cloud Americas

Jorge Ros is the Vice President for IBM Cloud Americas, responsible for the go-to-market of this portfolio across the region.  In this role, Jorge leads a Sales team that manages the relationship with clients, technical solutioning, and customer success in deploying and driving value from the IBM Cloud, as well as a team that supports and enables Ecosystem Partners across the region.  He is the Cloud Executive Sponsor for key Global Accounts and Partners, including Infosys, Avaya, Ingram Micro, Adobe, and multiple others. Before this, Jorge was the Global Vice President for IBM Cloud Ecosystem, Global Director of IBM Cloud Platform Sales, and he also served as Chief of Staff to David Kenny, Senior Vice President for IBM Watson and Cloud Platform.

Jorge joined the Cloud business in 2012 as the Global IBM Cloud ISV and CSP Partnerships BUE, responsible for Sales to, and Partnerships with, companies building Solutions on IBM’s Cloud Platform.  In this role, Jorge worked as part of the leadership team, establishing IBM’s approach to Cloud Partnerships.  Throughout his career at IBM, he has held leadership positions in Sales, Strategy, and Operations in the US, Europe, and Latin America, as well as at the Global level.

Jorge is the Senior State Executive for IBM in Florida, and he is also the Executive Sponsor for the Familia at IBM Florida Community that promotes networking, engagement, and growth of the Hispanic cohort and allies within IBM in the state of Florida.
